Expansion of Mushroom Farming in Vietnam: UXO Survivors' Assistance Program
HDI is expanding a nascent mushroom farming initiative in Vietnam's Quang Tri province. Project/RENEW, a cooperative initiative between the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, the Quang Tri Province People's Committee and the Trieu Phong Farmers Union, allows UXO and landmine survivors and their families to earn additional income by cultivating mushrooms at or near their homes. Presently, 866 families are involved in this groundbreaking initiative.
HDI plans to expand this project by developing a modern, hi-tech, organic mushroom farming industry in Quang Tri, thus creating a significant and stable source of employment for UXO survivors in the province. We are currently working with some of the most innovative and creative mushroom experts in the United States to develop a business plan for the establishment of an efficient, professional, export-oriented organic mushroom farming infrastructure and processing plant in Quang Tri.
