HDI’s “U.N. Across America” – U.N. Diplomats Visit Chicago, IL, May 4-6, 2008
May 8, 2008
The Humpty Dumpty Institute brought a delegation (list of participants) of U.N. diplomats to Chicago, Illinois May 4th-6th (view photos). The group started their time in Chicago with a roundtable of students and faculty at DePaul University and was treated to a tour of DePaul’s historic downtown campus. Following the events at DePaul University, the delegation had the opportunity to meet with Chicago civic leaders and the consular community at a lunch hosted by the Chicago Sister Cities Initiative on the 95th floor of the John Hancock Building; giving the diplomats an unsurpassed view of the city. Immediately following the lunch, the group saw the marvels of Chicago’s famed architecture onboard a riverboat tour on the Chicago River and Lake Michigan. This evening program included a dinner with Chicago business leaders hosted by the World Trade Center of Chicago and a night out on the town for a taste Chicago’s famed music scene at Buddy Guy’s Blues Legends.
On May 6, the group attended a breakfast organized by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and the CME Group at CME Group Headquarters. The diplomats and CME Group executives had an insightful conversation on ways to confront the current global crisis in the world food market. The group greatly appreciated the opportunity to tour the trading floor and the chance to see commodity trading in action. This U.N. Across America program ended with an unrivaled cultural experience, a behind the scenes tour of the Field Museum of Natural History. The tour was led by Joseph Brennan, who not only gave an exciting presentation of the Museum’s permanent exhibitions, but allowed the group to see the research facilities of this world class institution.
