Humanitarian Relief

On 14 January 2005, HDI accompanied Kevin Kennedy, Chief of the Humanitarian Emergency Branch at the U.N.'s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs to Washington DC to brief congressional staff members. Mr. Kennedy discussed the United Nations evolving role in coordinating the massive relief and reconstruction effort in South East Asia following the late 2004 tsunami.

Kevin M. Kennedy is the Chief of the Humanitarian Emergency Branch, Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), United Nations, New York. Prior assignments with OCHA include duty in Geneva with the Complex Emergency Support Unit and in New York as Chief, Africa I (West Africa) and Chief of the Office of the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs. His field experience with the U.N. includes service in Somalia, Haiti, the Balkans and East Timor as well as numerous missions to Africa and Asia.

In 2003, he served as the Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator for Iraq and later as the Officer-in-Charge of the U.N. Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI). He most recently served as the acting Resident/Humanitarian Coordinator for the Sudan.
