HDI Brings UNODC NYC Chief to the Hill for Briefings

The Humpty Dumpty Institute brought Simone Monasebian, Chief of the New York Office of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to brief House and Senate Staffers in Washington, D.C. on April 4, 2008. Simone Monasebian is currently the Chief of the New York Office of UNODC which is tasked with promoting justice globally. Ms. Monasebian is also an Adjunct Professor of International Criminal Law, and Human Trafficking, at Seton Hall Law School’s Cairo and Zanzibar programs. Prior to her appointment with UNODC, Ms. Monasebian was the Principal Defender at the Special Court for Sierra Leone.
In Washington, D.C. Ms. Monasebian discussed the United Nations campaign against human trafficking for purposes of sexual exploitation and forced labor with over fifty Congressional staffers in two separate briefings on Capitol Hill. She highlighted UNODC’s roles in raising awareness, providing technical assistance, and providing aid for human trafficking victims. She also used the briefings as an opportunity to praise the work the United States Government is doing to fight international trafficking through the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons of the U.S. Department of State.
