Prince Zeid
June 2005In June, 2005 HDI escorted Prince Zeid Ra'ad Zeid Al-Hussein, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Jordan to the United Nations, to Washington DC to brief congressional staff. Prince Zeid presented the Jordanian view of the ongoing situation on the Middle East and spoke on contemporary issues in the United Nations.
Prince Zeid is Jordan's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations; a post he has held since August 2000. Previously, from June 1996-June 2000, the Prince served as Jordan's Deputy Permanent Representative. Throughout this period of service, the prince has undertaken a number of special responsibilities relating to the following issues: international justice, women's development and United Nations peacekeeping.
In September 2002, Prince Zeid was elected the first President of the Assembly of States and Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court; a post he holds for a three-year term. The Assembly is the governing body of the International Criminal Court.
The Prince Zeid also chairs the Consultative Committee for the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), and is "Advisor to the Secretary-General for the United Nations on Sexual Exploitation and Abuse in U.N. peacekeeping Operations".
